As we approach the end of winter and enter the blossoming month of spring, we also commemorate and celebrate the month for our South African women as a tribute to all the women who marched to the Union Building on the 9th of August back in 1956 in protest against the old pass laws held upon women and liberating all women in the country.
We asked some of our young and celebrated women here at iHappify to tell us about what women’s month means to them and they shared their thoughts.
“Being raised by a single woman, it reminds me of all the women’s courage and their strength.” –Neo Mathibe (Operations Manager)
“Women’s month reminds me that all women are important and that a wise woman doesn’t follow a crowd, she is her own independent person, who must be celebrated” – Gugu Maseko (Call Centre agent)
“I am a mother, whom has a mother that also has a mother. That alone shows a chain of sacrifice to birth life and for that, women should be respected and celebrated every day not just in August.” – Tina Leopeng (Call centre agent)
“Women go through so much and most of the time it goes unrecognised, so women’s month means raising the awareness of all our troubles so that we should get the support we need from one another.” – Millicent Moshoeshoe (Field agent)
“Women’s month means that we as women must stand together and reinstill empowerment to women because women are the foundation of – Lindiwe Nombuso (Field agent)
